Meeting your favourite rider at the Adelaide Street Circuit is not guaranteed. Unless you have paddock access, opportunities are limited, but you can still get lucky if you know where to look and you arrive at the right time. Here are the best options during the Australian MotoGP weekend in Adelaide.

Fan zones and stage appearances

Riders sometimes take part in sponsor activities, interviews or short appearances in fan zones. These moments are usually announced close to the event, so keep checking the organiser’s channels and the social media accounts of teams, riders and key sponsors. That is often where the time and location get confirmed first.

Hero Walk

The Hero Walk is one of the best chances to get an autograph or a selfie. On Saturday and Sunday, selected riders from MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3 take part in a controlled fan interaction session. Numbers are limited, and access is managed, so arrive early and follow the event instructions on-site.

Near the main entrances and accredited parking areas

Not every rider stays inside the circuit complex. Some travel in from hotels, and they often arrive early to avoid traffic. Areas close to the main entrances and credentialled parking zones can sometimes be spots where fans wait. If you try this, do it respectfully, keep a safe distance, and be prepared that security may move people on.

How to behave when you meet a rider

Riders react differently to fan requests, but a few rules always help:

• Do not block their way. If a rider is walking with purpose, let them go.
• Stay calm and polite. If they do not stop, do not take it personally.
• Bring something worth signing. Official merchandise (cap, programme, team shirt) usually works better than random items.
• If you want a photo, be considerate. The best option is to have someone else take the picture. If you ask for a selfie, respect personal space. Not everyone is comfortable with close contact, especially in a crowd.
